Mr. Ditmir Bushati was born in Shkoder, on March 24th, 1977. He is married to Ms. Aida Bushati (Gugu). They have two children, Hera and Martin.
Mr. Bushati was elected as Member of the Assembly for Tirana constituency and was re-elected in the elections of 23 June 2013. He served as Chair of the Parliamentary for European Integration (2011-2013) and was member of the Joint EU-Albania Parliamentary (2009-2013). He is an elected member of Socialist Party Chairmanship since 2011.
Bushati holds a law degree awarded with distinction from University of Tirana and a Master’s of Laws (LL.M.) in Public International Law from Leiden University, The Netherlands. Bushati was a Research Fellow in Public International Law at TMC Asser Institute, Hague, the Netherlands. He spent also one year as a TEMPUS Fellow in Athens, Greece at the European Public Law Centre, specializing in EU Law. Bushati has received diploma from Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; Academy of American and International Law, Dallas; Abo Academy University, Finland.
Before becoming involved in politics, Bushati was a civil society activist. He served as the Executive Director of the European Movement in Albania (EMA). Additionally, he used to hold the position of the Director for the Approximation of Legislation at the Ministry of European Integration and, at the same time, was one of the members of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) negotiation team. Further, he held other positions, such as Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Legal Advisor to the Constitutional Court, in the Office of the President of the Republic of Albania and also as a research fellow at the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia, Hague, the Netherlands.
Mr. Bushati served as an analyst for Freedom House (2007-2008) for the Nations in Transit Report. He used to be a rapporteur of the European Society of International Law (ESIL), National Coordinator of the Open Society Foundation (OSF) to monitor Albania’s progress in the European integration process (2006-2008). He worked as a consultant for various projects of the EU, World Bank, USAID, GIZ, OSI, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, IOM, SNV.
Mr. Bushati is a Lecturer of European Law and EU Enlargement Process in various university and research institutions in Albania and Kosovo. He has published a series of research papers and articles in relation to the EU enlargement process, the International Public Law and European Law.
Mr. Bushati is fluent in English and Italian and has good knowledge of French.
