Mr. Ditmir Bushati was born in Shkodra on March 24, 1977. He is married to Mrs. Aida Bushati (Gugu). They have two children, Hera and Martin.
Mr. Bushati was elected MP in Tirana Region in 2009 and was re-elected again in the same district in the June 23, 2013 elections. He served as Chair of the Parliamentary Commission for European Integration (2011-2013) and member of the Committee Joint Parliamentary EU-Albania (2009-2013). Since 2011, he has been elected Member of the Presidency of the Socialist Party of Albania.
Mr. Bushati graduated with a Gold Medal from the Faculty of Law, University of Tirana (1999). He has completed Master’s degree in International Public Law (LL.M.) at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands (2001). Mr. Bushati has been the recipient of scholarships for various study and research programs such as TEMPUS, NUFFIC, Victor Felsom, Kokalis. He was a researcher at International Public Law at the TMC Asser Institute, The Hague, Netherlands (2003) and a researcher at European Affairs at the University of Athens, Greece (2000). He has conducted a number of specializations for international affairs in several prestigious institutions such as: Harvard University; The International Law Academy in Dallas, USA; Abo University Academy, Finland.
Before embarking on politics, Bushati has been a civil society activist. He has directed the European Movement in Albania. He also exercised the function of Director of Legislation Approximation at the Ministry of European Integration, being at the same time a member of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) negotiation team; adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs; legal adviser to the Constitutional Court; The Office of the President of the Republic of Albania; International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, The Hague, The Netherlands.
Mr. Bushati served as an analyst at Freedom House (2007-2008) for the “Nations in Transit” report; national reporter for the European Association of International Law (ESIL); the National Coordinator of the Open Society Foundation (OSF) for monitoring the progress of Albania in the European integration process (2006-2008). He has served as consultant in various EU, WB, USAID, GIZ, OSI, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, IOM, SNV.
Mr. Bushati is also a lecturer in European Law and the EU Enlargement Process at various university and research institutions in Albania and Kosovo. He has published scientific papers and articles on areas related to the EU enlargement process, International Public Law and European Law.
Mr. Bushati is a master of English and Italian and is a cognitive teacher of French.
