Full readiness on the ground has continued throughout the day across the entire country to manage the situation caused by heavy rainfall, flooding and deteriorating weather conditions, with the absolute priority being the protection of human life and the minimization of damage.
Due to the immediate risk to residents’ life and health, the Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with local authorities, has ordered immediate evacuations in the Administrative Units of Sukth and Katund i Ri in the Municipality of Durrës, as well as in the Administrative Unit of Novoselë in the Municipality of Vlorë. The evacuation is being carried out in line with the Law on Civil Protection and national and local emergency plans, under the coordination of the National Civil Protection Agency, prefects and municipal structures. Priority has been given to children, the elderly, persons with disabilities and families in isolated areas, while transportation is being provided by municipal vehicles, the Fire and Rescue Service and the Armed Forces.
In Fier County, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Andis Salla, closely monitored the situation in the field, where ministry structures, drainage boards and veterinary services have been engaged in the evacuation of livestock at risk and in preventing damage to agriculture and livestock farming. The Drainage Board is currently operating with 16 excavators to repair embankments, while pumping stations are functioning at full capacity. In parallel, the assessment of damages is underway to ensure support and compensation for affected families.
The situation in the Ura e Mifolit area was also inspected by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, who announced that a compensation package is being prepared for damaged homes and agricultural assets. She stressed that the hydrological situation is being monitored continuously and that the energy system has operated normally, without prolonged interruptions. Water supply in the city of Fier is continuing, despite difficulties at certain points.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Albana Koçiu, inspected the situation in Sukth, where the evacuation plan has begun to be implemented and the Armed Forces, State Police and Civil Emergency structures have been deployed. At present, more than 200 personnel and several Armed Forces vehicles are on the ground to ensure safety and transport residents to secure areas.
The State Police remain on full alert to manage traffic circulation as well, particularly along roads affected by snow and the risk of ice in the counties of Shkodër, Korçë, Kukës, Gjirokastër and Dibër, as well as on key routes including the Arbër Road, the Road of the Nation, and Llogara. On these stretches, the use of winter tyres and chains is mandatory, while road clearing and salting continues in cooperation with maintenance contractors.
Authorities call on citizens to cooperate with field structures, follow the guidance of Civil Emergencies and the State Police, and, if assistance is needed, to contact the free emergency number 112. The situation is being monitored continuously, and state institutions will remain engaged until full normalization is achieved.
