Transformed schools have long been a reality in Tirana, where new educational infrastructures are introduced year by year, aiming to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
“Pjetër Budi” school, a 9-year educational institution in Tirana, is being rebuilt from the ground up. This project aims to elevate the overall learning experience, enhance security, optimize movement, and ensure efficient accessibility, all in line with the best international practices and standards.
Currently, the school serves approximately 1,000 students, who currently attend in two shifts. However, with the construction and expansion of the facilities, the school will eliminate double shifts. The new building will feature 28 classrooms for the 9-year schooling cycle, as well as two new classrooms for preschool children. The newly transformed school will also include a library, laboratories, multifunctional sports spaces, a green terrace, and rooms for the psychologist and nurse, among other amenities.
To assess the progress of the construction, Prime Minister Edi Rama, along with Delegated Mayor of the Municipality Anuela Ristani, visited the site today.
“As part of the schools we’ve rebuilt, this one has been fully reconstructed. One of the improvements we’re making is completely eliminating double shifts, thanks to the addition of more classrooms. Up until now, there were 938 students, and 4 classrooms operated in double shifts. We’ve added more classrooms, better optimized the space with the new design, and there will be no more double shifts. In addition to providing green spaces and excellent lighting, the school will feature a beautiful interior hall and a green terrace. The terrace above will be fully usable, with access from the hall through the classrooms and corridors. Another feature is the multifunctional gym, as well as an additional multifunctional hall with external access, which can be used outside school hours. There will also be a library and laboratories, and we’re adding preschool classrooms that didn’t exist before. We expect the project to be completed by the end of the year,” explained Delegated Mayor of the Municipality Ristani.
Prime Minister Rama commented that the transformations taking place in Tirana’s schools represent a significant leap forward in terms of European standards.
“With the schools in Tirana, we have initiated a revolution and built a model that meets the highest European standards, undoubtedly. These schools are like those in any city in Europe, where there are old schools, basic schools, and high-quality schools. These are among the very best schools, without a doubt. It’s a huge revolution,” he said.
